Technical Architect

Our client is a well established and growing Business and Technology consultancy who operate largely within the Public sector. To support their continued growth they currently require Technical Architect's.


The Technical Architect takes the lead in specifying the system architecture and design required to deliver a high quality solution fulfilling the business demands within the budget and delivery timescales. Our technical architects work in a range of roles, including directly advising clients, taking a hands-on role to steer the direction of the solution, or working with our development teams to deliver the final system. Our clientdevelops a diverse range of systems and we are able to offer technical architects a wide variety of work with other highly-skilled consultants.

Requirements

You will have an excellent academic record including a minimum 2:1 degree in a technical/numerate discipline from a good university, but just as important is demonstrable expertise in a relevant consulting or technology area, strong client-facing skills and evidence of continued career progression. Experience in the public sector is an advantage, but not essential. In particular, we are interested in people with proven ability in:

Business consulting -

Helping clients to define business cases,
design new business processes, or drive the implementation of business change as part of technology investment programmes. Experience of Enterprise Architecture and the planning and management of major IT programmes. Working alongside business change specialists and client teams to interpret business needs and guide the direction of the programme.

• Technology consulting -

Providing subject matter expertise as client-side advisors to major system developments, developing business and technology requirements and managing delivery of IT-enabled business change projects. Experience in developing and communicating IT strategies and roadmaps to support business change.

• Software development and system integration –

Experience of the development lifecycle for software and/or hardware systems, including the integration of these systems with third-party or legacy applications. Working knowledge of development tools, application servers and modelling techniques, and experience of leading and working with development teams to shape an end-to-end solution. Experience in sizing and pricing solutions, and an awareness of service delivery and hosting services. Understanding of the non-functional needs of solutions, including security, performance and availability.

• Data and analytics –

Designing database, warehousing and analytics solutions to derive meaningful, useful and reliable intelligence from clients’ data sources. Experience of large-scale data environments and familiarity with the disciplines of handling large volumes of structured and unstructured data.



The Individual
Candidates must have the following skills:
• Broad exposure to architectures and business problems including eCommerce, Content Management, Data Warehousing, Customer Relationship Management, Mobile Data and Enterprise Application Integration.
• Experience of multiple architectures and tools such as J2EE, Microsoft DNA and .NET, EAI and ETL tools, Content and Document Management packages such as Documentum, SAS, Oracle, SQL Server. Experience of working with and influencing quality and maturity standards such as ISO9001, ISO12207, CMM/CMMI.
• A good knowledge of open standards and design methodologies including UML, RUP, Data Modeling. Excellent commercial/pragmatic abilities in order to understand and interpret clients' requirements.
• Bid preparation - definition of the technical solution and estimates.
• Very strong hands-on design and direction of the solution.
• A strong element of creativity to shape innovative solutions combined with strong architectural design experience in order to develop a workable solution.
• Experience in estimating, sizing and costing solutions, working with project managers and subject matter experts to develop robust implementation plans
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, for both technical and business audiences
• Strong interpersonal skills to show leadership, take a proactive problem-solving approach, and develop robust working relationships with suppliers, client teams and consultants
